What is Porsche Function on Demand?

As a whole, the automotive industry is often leading the way in technological innovations. In a little more than 100 years, automobiles have come from cumbersome horseless carriages to the sleek and nimble high-performance machines you can find in the McDaniels Porsche showroom. It is not a coincidence that Porsche has been responsible for a lot of those innovations along the way. When the 2021 Porsche Taycan starts to become available early next year (2021), it will be equipped with the next generation of automotive technology that really puts a lot of power and choice in the hands of its owner. So, what is Porsche Function on Demand? Well, suffice it to say that this new service will allow Porsche Taycan owners to re-equip their vehicles on-the-fly as their needs change. Let’s take a closer look.

How does Porsche FoD work?

It really shouldn’t be a surprise that software is a major component of all modern vehicles. However, Porsche is really among the first manufacturers to allow owners to pick and choose what systems they use as they want them. The 2021 Taycan is a natural jumping-off point for Function on Demand technology, because of its advanced electrified powertrain. In fact, the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM) that will help current Taycan owners squeeze every last mile out of its battery system. Porsche will be adding Active Lane Keep Assist and the Porsche version of the adaptive cruise control system to the on-demand feature menu.

How do I get these systems?

In the old days, software updates would have required a trip to an authorized Porsche service center, like the one we have at McDaniels Porsche. But, FoD means on-demand and owners of the 2021 Porsche Taycan, and other future models, presumably, will be able to pick and choose the features they want to have as they need them. There are almost no other vehicle manufacturers that have this kind of service available to its customers.
