How did Porsche come up with their logo?
Porsche owns one of the most iconic and recognizable logos of any automaker in the world. At first glance, onlookers will immediately feel the prestigious vibe the logo gives off. As with most logos, the Porsche logo has a bit of history and story behind it. Read on to learn how Porsche came up with their logo and what it stands for!
The Porsche logo initially wasn’t designed for the automaker. It actually originates from the coat of arms of the state of Württemberg, a state of the former Weimer Germany. Porsche is headquartered in Stuttgart, the capital city of what was once Weimer Germany. Though Württemberg no longer exists in the same state as it once did, Porsche still uses that coat of arms combined with the coat of arms of Stuttgart as their logo.
To dive a little deeper into it, the horse on the logo represents the stud farm that Stuttgart was built on while the antlers and red and black stripes are from the Württemberg coat of arms.
While many automakers change their logos up over the years, the logo for Porsche has remained largely unchanged since it was officially established in the 1950s. While some German historians may recognize aspects of the logo from the two coats of arms, most of us today see it as a symbol of outstanding automotive performance and craftsmanship. You’ll find the symbol on all Porsche models such as fan-favorites like the 2019 718 Cayman GTS or the 2019 Macan.
